Five famous paintings, including a Matisse and a Picasso, worth of 500 million euros have been stolen from the Paris Museum of Modern Art.

The fivecoach bags missing paintings are said to be Dove with Green Peas (1912) by Pablo Picasso, Pastoral (1905) by Henri Matisse, Woman with a Fan by Amedeo Modigliani, Olive Tree Near Estaque by Georges Braque and Still Life with Chandeliers by Fernand Leger, the BBC reported.

The guards discovered the robbery just before the museum was to open on Thursday. Authorities believe the job has been carried out by a lone man.

Security cameras showed a masked man breaking a window and getting into museum through it. The thief apparently cut the painting from their frames carefully, leaving them empty on the wall.

A growing number of art thefts have taken place in France in recent months. According to coach handbags, about 30 paintings worth of nearly one million euros were stolen from a private villa in the Cote d'Azur in January.
